Although the slopes are still open (and plenty of spring skiing is on the way), many are focusing their thoughts on hitting the greens this coming golf season … and it won’t be long before the clubs make a comeback on the course at Holiday Valley.

Officials have set the tentative opening date of the Double Black Diamond Golf Course (at least the front 9) for April 13. The Practice Facility with the Driving Range and practice greens are also set to open that day.

“We have a new course superintendant this year, and he's anxious to get onboard to continue to improve the golf course here,” said Jane Eshbaugh, Director of Marketing at Holiday Valley.

Steven Carney, Holiday Valley’s Director of Golf announced earlier this month that Bill Burford has accepted the position of Superintendant of Holiday Valley’s Double Black Diamond Golf Course.

Burford, originally from Erie, PA has been employed by the Kemper Management Group and spent the last six years as the Superintendant at The Course at Aberdeen in Valparaiso, Indiana. Burford has twenty years of experience in golf course management and is the past president of the Michiana Golf Course Superintendants Association.

“Bill has shown that he is highly qualified with complete knowledge in all areas of course management,” said Carney. “We expect Bill to build upon the improvements made over the past five years and take the course to a new level of quality and service.”

Burford is replacing Don Wagner who retired from a 27-year career as Holiday Valley’s golf course superintendant.
