Weight Loss and Energy Gain

Happy Spring and Summer Days ... Who Doesn't Want These?


   Oh Happy Days! Being in shape and having boundless energy … is this how you start every Monday?  Or do your Mondays consist of wondering how to lose weight and acquire endless joy?  Or maybe your Monday starts with a plan only to hit Sunday night one pound heavier, totally exhausted and hopeless for change.
   For most people, losing weight is not as easy as “calories in, calories out”. Nor is energy a matter of more sleep or the latest “energy” product. There are many ways to approach weight loss and energy production depending on each person’s current health concerns, lifestyle considerations, financial accessibility, time, motivation, support system and tools. In this article, I will attempt to paint a picture of various options to provide your body with what it needs to experience “Happier Days”.
   After completing naturopathic medical school, board exams and CT licensure by 2011, I was just “hanging” on by a thread. At 39 years old I was exhausted from the inside out which had created a 20 pound weight gain, very low energy, inability to get out of bed before 9:30 every morning, weakness upon exercising, unclear thinking and moodiness. A urine and saliva test with NeuroScience Labs indicated very low functioning adrenal glands with imbalances found in some neurotransmitters and hormones. All this damage was the result of a seven-day school/work week for seven years. Stress had taken a VERY intense toll on my body. The saying, “you reap what you sow” is very real! So I decided to start sowing seeds of health … I am now reaping a 15 pound weight loss, increased energy, ability to wake around 7am, stable moods, great skin, strength with exercising, focused thinking and balanced moods.

   Don’t be fooled … you will not lose weight nor will you gain energy if you don’t cleanse your body from all that is creating disease and preventing healing.    You Are What You Eat! Stop eating “foods” that are not really foods!  They are killing you! If you can afford to eat unhealthy, you CAN afford to eat healthier! I have estimated that 60-70% of the health concerns that walk through my door are from deadly food choices - sugar, processed foods, junk foods, fast foods and genetically modified foods. It is also estimated that Americans eat a half pound of sugar per day! The combination of these two books will help you balance blood sugar levels, eliminate poor food choices and stimulate metabolism.    Admit that you are an addict!  Step one for AA says, “We admitted we are powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.” Admittance is Power and Freedom. It may not be alcohol or drugs, but rather sugar, bad carbs, fast foods, sodas (especially diet sodas), candy or too much dairy. It boils down to chemicals and sugar - two compounds that should never go into our bodies and are just as powerful on a global level as heroin and cocaine. After I did a few Candida cleanses I came to a very sobering conclusion: I am addicted to sugar and wheat. So that was it.  I quit them both three months ago. A sample of either substance every once in a while reminds me that this is a lifestyle shift. I can no longer tolerate them, which is fine with me because at 40 years old I feel better than when I was 20!
   Cleanse and Detox Your Body!  This can be done with foods, herbs and nutrients. Juicing and Blending are great ways to consume large quantities of veggies and fruits every day. Recently I had a woman come back after juicing every day for one month straight. She did not need to lose weight but for being in her 40s wanted to lose the cellulite appearance and to have glowing skin. It worked!    Adrenals. You can bet that stress over a period of time has taxed your adrenals. Herbal combinations such as Adaptamax, Licorice Root and Macacan restore health to these stress organs.
