Ellicottville, NY 14731
Every store in town excels in customer service, bootfitting, and tuning. We specialize in the aforementioned as well as our unique random acts of tumbling and yeti wrangling…
Brand names we can find inside:
Apex, Arbor, Atomic, Bergans of Norway, Canada Goose, Capita, Dalbello, Dynstar, Eider, Elan, Hot Chillys, Jones, K2, Killy, Kjus, Mammut, Nils, O’Neil, Ride, Smartwool, Smith, Volkl … and so many more, you just need to stop in.
The shop has three floors of merchandise ... what the heck do you fill it all with?
This year we have a completely re-designed store layout. On our main floor, you will find a variety of clothing and accessories to suit any snow lover’s needs. Upstairs is the equipment guru’s dream: skis, snowboards, boots and accessories all in one place. Finally, for the best deals in the house, head downstairs to our Bargain Basement.
What are some of the hardgood products that you’re super stoked on carrying this year?
We’re excited about the introduction of K2 ski boots and Volkl’s new all mountain women’s Yumi Ski. Also, we’re stoked to have the all new Flux snowboard bindings back in the store again.
Same question, softgoods.
We cannot wait to show off our collection from Bergans of Norway and Canada Goose.  Moreover, if you are always cold, check out Zanier’s heated gloves.
Some of your other “must-mention” items in-store:
Airblaster’s Ninja Suits - a one piece long underwear suit with a 350 degree zipper; Nikwax to clean and protect all your waterproof, breathable gear; and our large selection of Ellicottville t-shirts and sweatshirts.
Tell us about your TekScan machine and the custom footbeds you offer.
To serve our customers best, we have developed a tandem custom bootfitting system.  The first part begins with our Footbalance Custom Insoles - this computerized system analyzes foot shapes and movement.  It guides us in building the perfect custom insole for skiing/snowboarding.  We also stock insoles for other sports, such as running and walking, or just your everyday casual shoe.  The second part involves one of our boot doctors assisting a customer to pick out the best boot for his or her needs based on many factors, including their foot shape, ability, budget, etc.  After the perfect boot is chosen, we use our TekScan machine to create the proper body alignment with the boot and the ski.  Our machine can guide us with a visual weight distribution picture.  We can then make adjustments to the boot to ensure that the ski is properly weighted when the customer is in his or her boots.  Everyone is welcome to stop in for a demo - we have even added two big screen TVs for easier viewing of our bootfitting technologies.
Your shop sets up a demo tent each month at the local resorts, correct?  Do you have dates set yet?  Are there any other local events or activities you plan to host or take part in this season?
Unfortunately, we have not yet set our demo schedule; however, it will be on our Facebook page and our website (www.dekdebruns.com) as soon as we finalize it.  Our first of the season will be with all of our manufactures at Holiday Valley’s free customer demo on Dec. 21, 2013.
What is the best way to gain favor with the staff?
If you are looking to win the favor of the girls, bring in a box of seasonal Nerds candy. To win the guys over, bring in a six-pack of seasonal beer.
We hear Greg (owner of Dekdebruns) is addicted to eBay…what kind of stuff does he buy?
Greg is known to have sleepless nights!  Around 2am, he’ll head to his computer for some retail therapy. He typically looks for vintage ski items. He has found sixty pairs of Stein Erikson goggles, dating to the sixties, still in their original packaging.  While he and Sean Lowes (of The City Garage) thought these were a great purchase, the rest of the staff just laughed. Some of Greg’s favorite finds include a pair of “THE” skis, Dolomite “Secret Weapon” ski boots, and a pair of brand new Moog bindings produced locally in East Aurora, NY.  He is still on the hunt for a pair of Porsche Design ski boots by Kastinger.
What do you guys do in the off-season when the snow melts and the doors to the shop close?
We start with a couple weeks of necessary R&R - Greg and Patti enjoy the beach, while I head for western snow. Much of our part-time staff plans for summer break from school.  During the summer, Greg has developed a boat detailing and fiberglass restoration business in Buffalo, NY - he just cannot relax!
