Gear Up for Fishing, Hunting, Camping and More

Annual Outdoor & Rec Sports Show coming to Olean, NY

The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC) is pleased to announce the return of an event that all outdoorsmen and women eagerly anticipate: the annual Outdoor and Recreation Sports Show. The event provides the perfect opportunity to gear up for spring fishing, camping, hiking, and the great outdoors, in general! This year’s show takes place on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 23-24 at the Good Times of Olean Events Center. Whether you’re looking forward to updating your equipment, learning tips from well-known experts and vendors, or enjoying the afternoon with like-minded friends, the 7th annual Sports Show is the place to be.

According to Meme Yanetsko, Chief Operating Officer of GOACC, the Sports Show “brings the whole of the great outdoors under one roof.” With almost forty vendors to date, the Sports Show caters to a variety of outdoor activities. Yanetsko is pleased to welcome back many of last year’s vendors including the show’s official snowmobile vendor, Leisure Time Powersports, Pfeiffer Nature Center, Reloaders Anonymous, Country Squirrel Outfitters of Ridgway, PA, and Red Barn Gun Shop, which sponsors the show’s raffle. Let your taste buds run wild at Buffalo Bob’s Wild Game Jerky booth or put them to the test at the booth of Burning Asphalt Sauces! Even those looking to obtain a pistol permit can stop by the Allegany/Cattaraugus County Pistol Clerk’s booth.

Several new vendors are looking forward to being a part of the show and sharing their gear and expertise with visitors. Twin Tiers Outerwear of Cuba, which opened its doors earlier this year, is eager to share their wide selection of outdoor clothing including hunting outwear, Dickies, Muck Boots, and reflective gear. Other new vendors include Westfield Bait & Tackle, John’s Guns of Olean, and the Red House Brook Chapter of Trout Unlimited from Frewsburg. With over 2,000 attendees at last year’s show, Yanetsko emphasizes the great exposure that vendors continue to enjoy year after year.

“As more individuals and families travel shorter distances from home and take shorter vacations or mini vacations, the Rec/Sports Show will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities close to home,” explained Yanetsko.

Another part of the show that visitors look forward to is the featured entertainment. Yanetsko is excited to announce the return of Jim Beverly, a well-known retriever trainer from Oakfield, NY. Beverly has over fifty years of experience in training retrievers and being involved in the waterfowl hunting industry. A Dakota Decoy X-treme Team Staff Member, DTSystem Pro Staffer, Dog Pro for M2D Camo and Pro Staff member for Mojo Outdoors, Beverly shares his knowledge and experience at outdoor shows all over New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Throughout the weekend, visitors can enjoy ongoing dog training seminars that “feature Jim’s team of dogs displaying their acute ability by retrieving and working right at the show,” according to Yanetsko. Beverly will also be available throughout the weekend for one-on-one questions.

GOACC is hosting a raffle during the show which includes the opportunity to win one of many impressive prizes. The Grand Prize is the Savage Model 111 .270 Trophy Hunter with scope (or any standard Glock or Cross Bow), a prize valued at $595.00. Second prize is a 2016 Cannondale Mountain Bike Catalyst 4, which retails for $410.00. Other prizes include the KA-BAR Zombie Swabbie, KA-BAR Becker Crewman, KA-BAR USMC Utility Knife, and a Cutco Gut Hook Hunting Knife. Tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 with a limit of 500 tickets: the drawing will be held on Jan. 24. Tickets can be purchased now at the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce office and at the show.

The show will open on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 10am-5pm and Sunday, Jan. 24 from 10am-3pm. Admission to the show is $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for students and seniors. Admission for children ages twelve and under (accompanied by an adult) is free. There’s no need to leave the show for lunch, as concessions provided by Good Times will be offered on the show floor throughout the weekend.  For more information about the GOACC Outdoor and Recreation Sports Show, contact Yanetsko at 716-372-4433 or email events@oleanny.com.
