Looking for something super fun to participate in when you’re here in January? Head to Holiday Valley on Friday, Jan. 8 for the World’s Largest Ski & Snowboard Lesson and be a part of a Guinness World Record!
Organized by National Ski Areas Association, the event will take place at participating ski resorts across the United States at 10am local time. Beginners will be a part of the world record for the largest multi-venue ski/snowboard lesson ever taught.
“We’re super excited to be a part of such a cool event,” said Jane Eshbaugh, Marketing Director at Holiday Valley Resort. “If we can get people out on the hill and make them feel a part of something bigger all the while teaching them how to ski or ride, then it’s a win-win for us.”
For several seasons, National Ski Areas Association and their website SkiAndSnowboardMonth.org has been a driving force in getting people on the hill to experience how awesome learning a snowsport is. The world record event is a unique way for them to draw more participants to the hill.
January is Learn to Ski & Snowboard month, and Holiday Valley offers some really strong package deals for beginners. Come during the week and pick up a learn to ski/snowboard package for half price, just $30 during the day or $20 at night! The package includes a beginner’s lesson, a beginner’s area lift ticket and equipment rental.
“This is a nationwide initiative that’s designed to get the word out about how easy and fun it is to learn to ski or snowboard and to get more people out on the hill,” Eshbaugh said. “Our school and instructors are top notch, and we want to help grow skiing and snowboarding.”
One of the best deals going is the lodging package offered at The Inn at Holiday Valley. Book a midweek trip (Sunday through Thursday) and get a free Learn to Ski/Ride package for all of the first timers in your room. If you’ve got a friend that’s never been on-hill before, this is the perfect way to introduce them to skiing or snowboarding and to show them all of other benefits of the life of a skier or snowboarder, like relaxing in the hot tub after a day on the slopes and enjoying the après ski life of Ellicottville.
Holiday Valley’s snowsports school has a dedicated four-person chair and building called Creekside Lodge. When you park at the main area, head down the stairs and follow the green flags to Creekside, where you can find lift tickets, rentals and instructors. The resort offers lessons across the entire spectrum of snowsports, from beginner ski to advanced snowboarding and telemark skiing. Want to get better in the terrain parks? They’ve got instructors for that too, who will show/teach you techniques to better your skill set. It also has programs like the Rangers, where your child can get unlimited lessons throughout the season (with a season pass).
There’s also the Lounsbury Adaptive Ski Program, which gives participants with disabilities the opportunity to get out onto the hill. With over 50 volunteer instructors, Lounsbury focuses on the ability of the person rather than the disability.
Reservations are required for the World’s Largest Ski and Snowboard Lesson on Jan. 8, which can be done by calling the Creekside Lodge snowsports desk at 716-699-3505. You’ll receive a free adult Mountain Adventure Learn to Ski or Snowboard package, which is a 1.5 hour lesson, rentals and a lift ticket. You must be at least 6 years old to participate.
