The Off-Season... What Off Season?

A Ski Town in Summer is Just as Exciting!

Saturday, May 9

From casual speed-walkers to seasoned runners prepping for an upcoming marathon, the Happy Half and 5k has something for everyone - including an official Beer Mile! This rolling, scenic course heads along the outskirts of Ellicottville, offering fast times and a super fun atmosphere. The race starts bright and early at the Main Lodge at Holiday Valley, with half marathoners taking flight at 10:00am, followed by 5k runners departing at 10:20am.

Known for its fun race distractions, including unicorns, bubbles, and smiley faces, runners can expect to have a high-energy morning at Holiday Valley’s Main Lodge. Get amped at the race start with live music and an enthusiastic mc, and finish with a short, uphill climb back to the lodge. Both half marathoners and 5k runners receive a custom designed finisher’s medal and a men’s or women’s specific t-shirt, included with entry fees. After you cross the finish line, hit the after-party for great food, entertainment, and beer provided by the award-winning Southern Tier Brewing Company.

If running 3+ miles isn’t your style, or you’re looking for another round of fun after you cross the finish, the Southern Tier Beer Mile starts at 1:45pm with two waves. The Beer Mile is simple: drink four beers, one every 1/4 mile. If you’d like to race with a team, a two-person beer relay starts at 2:00pm. Of course, all beer provided is from Southern Tier.

For more information and to sign up, visit happyhalfrun.com, or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/evlhalfmarathon (yes, this race is held by the same team who hosts the EVL Half and 5k). Although costumes are never required, feel free to wear your happiest outfit and check out past race pics. After all, this day is about putting the FUN into running.

Saturday, June 20

This 10+ obstacle, family friendly mud run (celebrating its ninth year!) starts with a ride up the Spruce chairlift to the top of the mountain at Spruce Lake, runs along the ridgeline, then down the hill. Pick your poison by joining the long wave at 6 miles, or the short wave at 4 miles. Children as young as 7 years old can run on the 4 mile course, but they must be accompanied by an adult. A Kids’ Mini-Mudslide course is a 1/2 mile long and includes several obstacles plus the mudslide.

The first waves of both the long and short courses are geared for those more aggressive participants that are interested in competing for event overall prizes; however, all waves are timed. In case you’re feeling especially tough, the long wave offers a touch of uphill running.

With a max capacity of 1,200 competitors, pre-register online to save your spot and receive a discounted fee for early entry. Prices increase on May 13. All competitors will receive a swag bag packed with goodies, a finisher’s medal, plus a hot dog and 2 beers (or beverages).

Certainly you’ll finish the Mud Run a bit ... muddy.  Changing facilities are available post-run. You can shower under the snow guns and change into dry clothes to enjoy the after party, mud-free!

The post-race party will be held on the Champagne Sundeck just outside Yodeler Lodge, with great music, games, and refreshments. Swing by Vendor Village to check out several local shops and fun booths. Friends, family, and spectators are welcome to purchase food and beverages and join in the fun!

For more information and to sign up, visit holidayvalley.com, or find them on Facebook at facebook.com/holidayvalleymudslide. Costumes are encouraged, and prizes will be awarded to the most creative. Make the Mudslide a special weekend and enjoy special lodging rates at all Holiday Valley hotels and rental properties. Ask about adding tickets for Sky High Adventure Park to your lodging package!

Friday-Sunday, July 3-5

Known for hosting acts like Don Felder, former lead guitarist of the Eagles, America, and Pat Benetar, the Summer Music Festival will not disappoint! Headliners this July 4th include Tommy DeCarlo, the current lead singer of the band Boston, and the legendary Steve Augeri, former lead vocalist of Journey. The Buffalo Philharmonic wraps things up on Sunday the 5th, followed by a state-of-the-art fireworks display.

This weekend-long festival of fun is proudly produced by the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce and its sponsors.  During the day, village streets will be bustling with vendors, an arts and crafts show, entertainment, and the pet parade. If relaxing is your thing, the pools at Holiday Valley are a great place to recline in a lounge chair to catch some rays. Kick your evenings off before heading to the main stage by listening to live music at the Holiday Valley Cabana Bar with a fresh strawberry daiquiri in hand.

Located at the base of the School Haus slope at Holiday Valley Resort, the main stage is nothing short of state-of-the-art. You’re guaranteed a great view from seating at every angle, and it’s a short walk from all the base amenities at the resort. Another fun fact: the Summer Music Fest is one of the only outdoor concert venues that allows visitors to bring in coolers with whatever your heart desires in it! Pack a picnic, some chilled beverages, your lawn chairs and blankets, and don’t forget the glowsticks for the kiddoes!

Presale tickets are available now, and are $40 for the Saturday concert, and $35 for Sunday, July 5th. Gates open at 6:00pm both nights. Tickets are general admission lawn seating, so get there early enough with your blankets and chairs to claim a nice piece of the slope. For a more intimate experience, VIP package include two tickets to the VIP Gala Dinner on Saturday, July 4th, and two tickets for both concerts on Saturday and Sunday evenings, which includes access to the side stage VIP lounge and the VIP seating area at the front of the stage. Additionally, your name will appear in the festival program as a sponsor of the event.  For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce at 800-349-9099 or go to www.ellicottvilleny.com.
