Articles in "Downtown Ellicottville"

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: There is no other place like Ellicottville. Whether you live here, or own a vacation home here, or just visit on the weekends, you’re probably well aware of the sense of community it possesses. The type of benevolence that shines through when someone needs help. On Sunday, Feb. 28, Ellicottville rallies around Donna Woodarek.

Holiday shoppers in Ellicottville will encounter a new business this year. Its can’t-miss location is signaled by two flags, the American and the Canadian, which fly proudly over the red front door. Enter Ameri-Can, located at 11 Washington Street, where an eye-catching and intriguing selection of American and Canadian art, antiques, and apparel awaits you.

“Good times, good friends, good health to you and the luck of the Irish in all that you do.” Although this Irish Christmas proverb could (and should) be applied to every party and gathering you attend this holiday season, none fit the bill better than Ellicottville’s annual Irish Christmas.

Through the seasons, Ellicottville has evolved into a snowsport enthusiast’s dream. Between the two awesome ski resorts, shops, bars, restaurants, businesses and people, it has become a destination for creative curation. On Saturday, Dec. 12 from 12:30pm-2:30pm, you’ll have a prime opportunity to celebrate the winter lifestyle right here in our amazing town.

Celebrating its 13th anniversary on Friday, Dec. 18, Ellicottville’s prominent wine and liquor store sells by coupling stories and experience with an unheralded love and enthusiasm for the product on its shelves. Owner Shannon Carscallen has a family history rooted deep in the industry, and her passion is immediately evident.

It’s good to be back in Ellicottville!   What’s great about Adventure Bound onthefly is that we’re going to appeal to such a broad range of people. There’s that aspirational, outdoor/lifestyle theme that people look for and a lot of people resonate with.  When a family comes in, we want to be able to offer something for everyone.

This Halloween costume themed race is truly fun for all levels of participants, whether you’re an avid marathoner or casual jogger. Costumes are encouraged, but certainly not mandatory, making this an enjoyable spectator event for those lining the start / finish area in downtown Ellicottville.

The Boardroom Snowboard Shop is proud to announce the opening of a second storefront at 16 Washington Street in Ellicottville, NY. Aptly named “The Boardroom on Main,” loyal fans and customers of The Boardroom will be able to expect the same level of product quality, customer service and snowboard-centric good vibes as the original location at 6113 Route. 219.

In our 20-year existence of food and beverage in Ellicottville, EBC has seen a lot of food and beer styles come and go. Our newest menu is infused with a wide array of influences from around the world.  With that said, let’s change course from our regular recipe spotlight, and instead get into a little explanation / biography of one of our most prestigious menu items: the Manhattan Strip Steak, and its undisputed Imperial partner, the Chocolate Cherry Bomb.

Another ski season is well underway, and per usual, the village and the resorts are chock full of changes that will no doubt positively enhance the experience for all who visit.  We've seen a lot of relocations, remodeling, rebranding, and more out of the culinary landscape here in Ellicottville.  One of these ‘new’ additions will be taking up shop in a familiar location to many, right on Monroe Street.  Cadillac Jack's is proudly opening their doors at the storefront which was once home to Hoagie's Pizzeria.  Snowed-In caught up with owners / operators Tina and Tom Zerbian to find out what we can expect from their exciting re-invented culinary adventure.

No child should wake up without a gift on Christmas, but with a little luck of the Irish and Santa's Workshop, hope is on the way ...

EVL Snowed-In's menu pick of the month takes us to the Ellicottville Brewing Company where they've created a unique twist on a centuries old recipe, the Monte Cristo.

Ellicottville, New York has long been known for its social atmosphere laden with bars, and restaurants … where those traveling from near and far can imbibe in a beverage (or three) in a lively setting unlike any other.  One of these fine establishments has taken things a step further by quietly becoming a self-sufficient powerhouse in managing the output of their core product - craft beer.  By now I’m sure you realize I’m referring to none other than the Ellicottville Brewing Company, a staple in the village since its humble beginnings in 1995, when owners/founders Walter and Allen Yahn and Peter Kreinheder were inspired by a ski trip to Vail, to create their own family-run brand.

Accommodations to fit every budget and lifestyle ... plan your vaca to EVL the right way. Reserve your stay at one of our fine hotels, B&B's or choose a cozy chalet, townhouse or country home through one of our local real estate and rental management companies ...

If you are not familiar with the work of Michael Israel, it can best be described as a Cirque du Soleil performance that ultimately results in a Jackson Pollack-like life sized canvass of creativity.   Israel is more than just a painter.  He is a performer who gives the audience an artistic experience unlike any other.  And he is coming to the Ellicottville Brewing Company this August.

Ellicottville as you know has a variety of bars and restaurants, but if you're looking for a cozy, quiet atmosphere to enjoy a dinner that rests on the finer side, The Silver Fox Steakhouse is the spot for you. SNOWED-IN stopped by to check in for this month’s Bartender Spotlight.
It won’t be long before all eyes are glued to televisions around the world as the 2014 Winter Olympics (officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games for those savvy in Roman numerals … or the 22nd Winter Olympics), are scheduled to take place from Feb. 6-23, 2014 in Sochi, Russia.  The Olympics need no further explanation - some of the most exciting sports, coupled with the best athletes, make for some of the most memorable sporting accomplishments in history.

If you’ve ever been in the quaint village of Ellicottville and found yourself asking, “where can I go for a really good steak?” the answer is actually quite simple.  The Silver Fox Steakhouse is an Ellicottville mainstay and its longevity in the market is a testament to the fine food and ambiance that you will find when you are a guest there.
If you happen to pop into Madigan’s during one of your winter pilgrimages to EVL, you’ll undoubtedly be greeted by a cast of characters like no other - from the patrons to the staff.  This happy hour haven is home base for many locals who enjoy the house wine and the comfort afforded by the iconic woodstove.  One of the newest faces behind the bar there is Jorden Leydecker, 22 years young, hailing from over the river and through the woods, growing up in nearby East Otto.  When she’s not slinging drinks at the “Green Bar,” Leydecker is a self-employed personal trainer at Spring Creek Athletic Club in Springville, putting her Bachelor of Sport Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh to good use.
Her work has been showcased in many places, including The Inkwell in Allegany, the Oxford Gallery in Rochester, various galleries in northern California, and of course her own studio in Ellicottville, better known as the Mill Street Gallery. Her realistic paintings have a luminous quality that may cause you to question whether they are actual paintings, or photographs. We’d like you to meet Barbara Fox.
It’s no secret Ellicottville is an ever changing landscape.  From the businesses in town, to the improvements at the local resorts, there is always SOMETHING changing.  One of the constants however, is you will always find a charismatic, passionate cast of individuals holding down the fort at your favorite bars and restaurants in our little ski mecca.  SNOWED-IN thought you should get to know some of these fine folks, so over the next few months, we’ll introduce you to some of our friends, in hopes that you’ll stop in and get to know them for yourself on your next visit to Ellicottville.
There’s nothing quite like the excitement of an approaching winter here in Ellicottville.   The first frost, followed by first snowfall, and of course the first snowmaking efforts by Holiday Valley and HoliMont are just some of the events that make us yearn for that first chair of the season.  Another one of the seasonal traditions here is what we like to call ‘PREMIERE SEASON’, where snow addicts from the area gather to watch the latest releases in ski & snowboard movies put out by major film companies.
Take a step inside a number of downtown businesses in Ellicottville, and you’re sure to see a variety of art adorning the walls
or displayed on retail counters.  The artists are local; their artworks are available for sale.  Claim your piece of Ellicottville.
