January 23, 2015 will find the perennial classic-rock favorite, America, filling the Seneca Allegany Events Center with their melodic sound that became a mainstay of pop rock music of the 1970’s.  I had the pleasure to catch up with Dewey Bunnell by phone; we talked about 2015 marking their 45th year in the business, a future project, how the band got its name, and what keeps him and Gerry Beckley on their game four and a half decades later.

Demo Day is - simply put - awesome.  And it's returning to the base of Mardi Gras this December.  All the reps are coming, all the local shops will be present, all are encouraged to come out and try the best of the best.  Let's go!

Now 30 years strong, the shop has evolved greatly since its inception, with brands filtering in and out through their quest to offer the best of the best for their valued customers.  One of these brands, now on its second tenure at the shop, is Burton Snowboards - the biggest and longest standing pioneer brand in the industry.  With this recent reintroduction, The Boardroom truly does offer the top brands in the industry.  So let’s drop in and hear more about their recent acquisition.

What better way to kickstart the season than by getting to know the people who take care of the hills we love to enjoy?

EVL Snowed-In's menu pick of the month takes us to the Ellicottville Brewing Company where they've created a unique twist on a centuries old recipe, the Monte Cristo.

Good news everyone - it’s finally THAT time of year again ... one of the most exciting seasons here in Ellicottville, NY.  The chill is back in the air, the leaves have created their annual colorful hillside inferno, and people are popping in to their favorite specialty shops to pick up the latest and greatest in winter gear and accessories.  We’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention some of the more popular festivals in the area, including EVL’s Fall Festival, and the ever popular Holiday Valley Beer & Wine Festival, happening Nov. 7-8 this year.  If you’ve never attended or heard of this incredible event, allow us to ‘pour on’ the details ...

Ellicottville, New York has long been known for its social atmosphere laden with bars, and restaurants … where those traveling from near and far can imbibe in a beverage (or three) in a lively setting unlike any other.  One of these fine establishments has taken things a step further by quietly becoming a self-sufficient powerhouse in managing the output of their core product - craft beer.  By now I’m sure you realize I’m referring to none other than the Ellicottville Brewing Company, a staple in the village since its humble beginnings in 1995, when owners/founders Walter and Allen Yahn and Peter Kreinheder were inspired by a ski trip to Vail, to create their own family-run brand.

Accommodations to fit every budget and lifestyle ... plan your vaca to EVL the right way. Reserve your stay at one of our fine hotels, B&B's or choose a cozy chalet, townhouse or country home through one of our local real estate and rental management companies ...

Whether you’re visiting Ellicottville, traveling through Cattaraugus County on the Amish Trail, or simply looking for an enjoyable place to spend one of the last few weekends of autumn, consider the city of Salamanca your destination.

Engelbert Humperdinck has been sharing his amazing voice with the world for 47 years and will make his first appearance at Seneca Allegany Casino in Salamanca on Friday, Nov. 7.

Less than twenty minutes from Ellicottville, Randolph, NY is a beautiful, historic town just a short drive from the Old Order Amish community. Randolph’s downtown offers visitors an experience like no other, for where else can one stay the night in a former firehouse, learn to knit socks, and peruse antiques and gifts in one weekend?  If you travel 20 miles from Ellicottville in the opposite direction, you’ll find yourself in Olean, NY, a hub of entertainment, delicious dining and seasonal events.  With a top-notch selection of restaurants and a quaint downtown shopping district, the city of Olean is a wonderful place to spend the day.  Plus, there’s no shortage of fun things to do throughout the winter months, especially during the holiday season!

Before we get started, let’s take this opportunity to congratulate HV on its 2014-’15 SKI Magazine resort ranking - 5th in the East.  Fifth!  Sitting only behind Mont Tremblant, Smuggler’s Notch, Stowe and Killington, the overall experience is what prompted readers to award The Valley it’s back-to-back Top-5 ranking.

The leaves on the trees surrounding Ellicottville are quickly morphing into a bright orange hue, which can mean only one thing: the winter season will be here before you know it.  Are you already picking out what new gear you want to purchase for the season?  Did you know the answer to that question months ago?  If so, then you must be ready for another fine season on the slopes.  And what better place to break in your new gear than at HoliMont?

Late fall into early winter can evoke more terror than a skeleton on Halloween to some, but don't stress ... come chill out in Cattaraugus County!  The “in between” season still offers much to do here with celebrations of Halloween, holiday shopping (it’s time to start thinking Christmas!), and plenty of ways to enjoy the outdoors, regardless of the weather!

McKean County, Pennsylvania, located just 30 minutes south of Ellicottville, New York, is where you go when you want to find snow.  An outdoor paradise year-round, the Allegheny National Forest becomes a sparkling white winter wonderland where every day is a snow day.

What a year! This winter has been rather odd - from an epic pre-Christmas snow to meltdowns to a Polar Vortex - and Ellicottville has thrived thanks to the continued support of you, our awesome and loyal friends and family. Taking into account the changing landscape of ski and snowboard culture, Ellicottville is a testament to the fact the industry is very much alive and well.  If you’re looking to finish the season strong, there are a slew of events at Holiday Valley to get your engine going.

Looking ahead to the warmer months coming upon us, I get real excited about “going to the garden” to choose dinner specials. I know we’re still in the cold season, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start our fresh cooking early.
