If you live in or frequently visit Ellicottville and its ski areas, you’re well aware by now of how many activities there are to do on any given weekday or weekend throughout the winter.  Whether it’s simply a mellow day on the slopes skiing or snowboarding, or attending one of the many high-character signature events on-hill, in the lodges or downtown, there truly is something for everyone.  What if we told you there was one event, however, that you may not have checked out or heard of yet?

Losing your mind does not have to be a process with no solutions or irreversibility, and is not just a process of aging that we must succumb to because “I am in my 70s”! Nor are brain dysfunctions (especially memory) limited to the aging process. Whether we call it anxiety, depression, insomnia, bipolar disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, Alzheimer’s, schizophrenia or Parkinson’s, the body can slow down and reverse the disease process. Just ask a functional MD, alternative practitioner or a naturopath how they have seen broken brains improve with detoxification, nutrient repletion, proper nutrition, homeopathy and botanical medicine.

If you're in the mood for love, the Enchanted Mountains of Cattaraugus County is the place for you.  Not only are there so many "love at first sight" places to see and activities you will fall "head over heels" for, there are plenty of places to stay that will “sweep you right off your feet!”

What could possibly be more exciting than a beautiful afternoon exploring twenty miles of the best cross-country ski trails in the Northeast? The Annual Art Roscoe Loppet Cross-Country Ski Race, of course! On Sunday, Feb. 15, skiers of all skill levels are invited to participate in an invigorating day on the trails starting and finishing at the Summit Ski Area in Red House at Allegany State Park, located in Salamanca, NY.

Country superstar Trace Adkins will be filling the Seneca Allegany Casino’s Event Center with his rowdy take on love and romance songs, his no- holds-barred smash hits and his down- to-earth standards on Friday, April 3.

Cooler temperatures inspire loads of winter fun in the Allegheny National Forest Region in Pennsylvania, from cross-country skiing to professional theater. Make your plans now for a lovely winter weekend getaway with lodging choices from the plush to the primitive, in the wildly beautiful Pennsylvania Wilds.

In years past, Holiday Valley and The Boardroom Snowboard Shop have teamed up to bring you a collaborative fundraising effort with B4BC (Boarding 4 Breast Cancer.) This year, however, they’re changing gears and teaming up with other local shops to bring you ‘Play it Forward.’

The HoliMont Snowsports Phoenix Program is celebrating its 19th year! With over 40 dedicated volunteers, 25 PSIA certified instructors and many devoted parents, this program has persevered though nearly two decades. If you aren’t already familiar with this phenomenal program, it teaches skiing and snowboarding to adults, youth and children with various disabilities. It offers more than the opportunity to ski or ride, however.  It opens up the world of snowsports and the opportunity to experience passion for POW!

SNOWED-IN made a visit to Dekdebruns Ski & Snowboard, located right on the main drag in the heart of EVL (or 18 Washington Street for your GPS).  Like many shops, they are chock full of some of the best brands with service to match, so read on to find out more of what’s new and exciting with them this season.

Why do you need snowy hills, black plastic bags and a penguin-style slide for the slopes this February? To participate in Holiday Valley’s annual Penguin Paddle, set for Saturday, Feb. 21 from 8:30am-4pm!

Another ski season is well underway, and per usual, the village and the resorts are chock full of changes that will no doubt positively enhance the experience for all who visit.  We've seen a lot of relocations, remodeling, rebranding, and more out of the culinary landscape here in Ellicottville.  One of these ‘new’ additions will be taking up shop in a familiar location to many, right on Monroe Street.  Cadillac Jack's is proudly opening their doors at the storefront which was once home to Hoagie's Pizzeria.  Snowed-In caught up with owners / operators Tina and Tom Zerbian to find out what we can expect from their exciting re-invented culinary adventure.

Take a seat at John Harvard’s Brew House at Holiday Valley and warm up with their signature Shepard’s Pie – the comfort food of choice after a fun-filled day on the slopes.  For those weekends when you’re unable to make the trip to Ellicottville, you can still enjoy the same delicious taste on your table …

Let’s visualize 2015 as a year of doing, living and going for it! The Universal Law of reaping what you sow proves itself true over and over again. Although life throws many other factors into this equation, treating ourselves with love and respect will yield healing and health to our bodies. Explore the following 4 Habits of Health as a means to reaching your destination … those things that are most important to you. As we sow new ways of living, we WILL enjoy the fullness of our lives and the strength to be all that we can be for others.

McKean County, Pennsylvania, located just 30 minutes south of Ellicottville, NY, is where you go when you want to find snow.  “The Loop” offers over 360 miles of groomed snowmobile trails within the wild and beautiful Allegheny National Forest (ANF). Book a snowmobile tour package if you want to travel into the forest with an experienced rider to see favorite ANF sites, rent a snowmobile, or call ahead to take a guided ATV Ride. Want to play indoors? Choose from over 40 local restaurants for an evening outing or weekend culinary adventure.

Forget making impossible goals that will fall to the wayside by February.  It's easy to stay indoors and veg out with your newly received electronics while eating the leftover Christmas cookies.  Some of the top resolutions every year are to lose weight / stay fit, eliminate stress, save money, learn something new, and spend more time with family.  Here is the run-down on how to accomplish these goals with ease right here in the Enchanted Mountains!

USASA - the United States of America Snowboarding Association - rolled the dice on competitive snowboarding in the 1980s and hasn’t looked back since. The genesis of its vision came about when Chuck Allen wanted an all-encompassing competitive circuit for snowboarding. Now, more than 25 years later, USASA continues to be the dominant competitive organization for amateur snowboarders across the country.

With the fresh snow of the New Year, skiers and snowboarders may find themselves taking an inventory of all their cold-weather apparel needed to embrace a full day on the slopes. Families with young children, in particular, may find that last winter’s jackets and snow pants no longer adequately cover the longer limbs of their young wearers. While the lure of online shopping may seem a viable option for children’s outerwear, the incredible variety and personable customer service of The Red Door, located at 11 Washington Street in downtown Ellicottville, makes it a one-stop destination for winter outerwear for the entire family.

One of the most visible and exciting (and did we mention loud?) events around makes its anticipated return to the Southern Tier this February, as the Seneca Allegany Resort & Casino welcomes back the AMSOIL ISOC U.S. Air Force National Snocross race, Feb. 6-7, 2015.  The Salamanca venue has quickly become a favorite of fans and riders participating in the 8-stop national circuit, attracting competitors and spectators from all over North America.

Join award-winning, widely-acclaimed instructor and ski racer, Lisa Densmore, for two days of alpine fun on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 12-13, 2015, right here in Ellicottville. With over 20 years of instruction and coaching under her DalBello skis, Densmore is ready to show the ladies how to have the best time on the slopes through instruction, equipment demos, video analysis, discussions, and of course, plenty of slope time.

In line with its always-evolving personality and progression, Holiday Valley added two key personnel to its terrain park program this season.

On Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015 HoliMont will turn the lifts for the annual SkiScape fundraising event.

No child should wake up without a gift on Christmas, but with a little luck of the Irish and Santa's Workshop, hope is on the way ...

More than just lyrics to a popular song, traveling over the river and through the woods here in the Allegheny National Forest Region of northwestern Pennsylvania will place you on the trail to enjoyable shopping in local shops, professional holiday musical performances and outdoor adventures for the sportsman.
